When would I need "Data Recovery" ?
Whenever you have lost valuable information (files) on your computer and do not have a reliable backup.
This can happen in many ways – a few are listed below:
Can all data be recovered ?
Unfortunately not! We cannot, for example, recover the original of a document that was rewritten and then saved with the original name. The only way to prevent this type of loss is to make regular backups of your work. We also cannot guarantee 100% recovery of all data on a damaged drive.
In some severely damaged drives file corruption, caused at the time of failure, may occur particularly in files that are in use at the time of the failure. Although we can recover these files we are recovering files that are already corrupted at the time we receive the drive. We do have software utilities that attemp to repair common file types (.doc ; .xls ; .zip etc) but this cannot always be guaranteed to be successful.
How long will it take ?
Every case is different and depends on the complexity of the work to be undertaken and our current workload. It could take from a few hours to a few days.
Typically recovery on a drive, without physical damage and using our "STANDARD" service would take from 2 to 3 working days from receipt of the drive.
We also offer an "EMERGENCY" service at a higher cost. With this option, your job "jumps the queue" and receives immediate (24 hour) attention until all data has been recovered. Contact us for costs of this service.
Is my drive returned "Ready to use" ?
Normally not. We recover your data but do not reload your operating system and/or programmes. We do offer this service at an additional cost and will require your original programme software and registration details.
On what media do you return my data ?
Usually on CD, but we can also return it on a new drive or another drive supplied by you. On larger drives it is more economical to return it on a hard drive. Contact us for pricing.
Is my data treated confidentially ?
Yes. All data is treated as confidential and will under no circumstances be divulged to another party. If required we will sign a confidentiality contract with you.
Do you retain copies of my data ?
If so requested we will keep a copy on hard drive for 1 week after returning your drive to you. This is to ensure that, once you have loaded it on your machine, it is working and recovery has been successful.Thereafter it will be permanently deleted from our system.
Is my drive safe in your possession ?
Whilst every precaution will be taken with any data, media, drive or equipment presented to us for any reason whatsoever Databak will not be held liable for any loss or damage to said goods whilst in our possession.
By employing the services of Databak to attempt to recover lost data you acknowledge that the data or equipment is already damaged and exonerate us from any claims arising out of said recovery attempts.
What are the costs involved ?
Click here to see our COSTS page.
What if I do not accept your quotation ?
If, after our initial assessment, we determine that your data is recoverable but you decide not to go ahead with recovery you will be required to pay a quotation fee of R 200.00 to cover costs already incurred by us. Your drive will then be returned to you. This condition does not include drives submitted under our Emergency option. Contact us first for details.
What are your conditions of payment ?
All recovery is carried out on a "Cash On Completion" basis. Under no condition will any data or media be released before payment has been made in full.
In cases of hard drive damage certain "outside" costs may be involved and these must be paid in advance. We will never incur costs without first giving you a quotation and obtaining your permission to proceed.
All transport or courier charges are for the customers account.
Details of our bankers are available on request for direct transfers but please be advised that goods will not be released prior to our confirming that the deposit has in fact been received by our bank.
Cheque payments will require a bank clearance period (currently approx. 7 days)
Unfortunately, due to past experience, no exceptions to these conditions will be allowed.
